Support for learning experiences

A sign that reads "Hokies Abroad" at a recent event on the Drillfield to promote study abroad opportunities.

Learning experiences outside of the classroom can launch you into your career with the skills and knowledge that you need. Undergraduate research and study abroad are two of the most transformative experiences. Others, including internships and co-ops or service learning, also allow you to apply classroom learning to real-world work environments, where you can connect your learning to your career goals.

Research opportunities are essential for students. You’ll get hands-on experience, learn from faculty members, and tackle societal problems.

  • Work with faculty – Partner with professors on projects in labs, studios, or the field.

  • Open to all majors – Opportunities are available in STEM, arts, humanities, and more.

  • Build your résumé – Gain hands-on skills that set you apart for jobs or graduate school.

Visit the to learn more about financial support and opportunities across campus. In the past two years, the office has doubled the number of undergraduate research fellowships for students. Meanwhile, more and more students are participating in the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research Symposium and taking advantage of financial support to travel to conferences to present their research findings.

Studying abroad will shift your perspective, and we’re committed to helping СÖíÊÓƵ Tech Advantage students cover the cost.

  • Programs around the world – Semester, summer, or short-term options.

  • Scholarships available – Funding support helps make travel accessible.

  • Global perspective – Experience new cultures, languages, and ways of thinking.
