Experiential Learning
Several student clubs help you explore the Arab world through language, culture, and community. These organizations offer opportunities for linguistic and cultural immersion, giving you the chance to practice Arabic and deepen your understanding of the region. They regularly host events such as Arabic conversation tables, lectures, film screenings, and artistic performances, creating fun and welcoming spaces to connect with others. Through these activities, you’ll engage with students involved in Middle East‑related groups—including the Arabic Student Club and other cultural organizations—and build relationships across a diverse community.
As an Arabic major, you can work directly with award‑winning faculty whose research spans literature and cultural studies, linguistics, education, political science, and anthropology. Students design projects around topics that inspire them—recent work has explored graffiti in the Arab world, women and war, cinema, and international policy. Research gives you the chance to deepen your expertise, build strong mentorships, and contribute original insights to the field.

Access free peer tutoring and a conversation‑partner program that lets you practice Arabic with native speakers and advanced learners. These sessions offer a relaxed, supportive way to build confidence, improve pronunciation, and strengthen your language skills outside the classroom.
Talking with native speakers is one of the best ways to strengthen your Arabic skills. Because Arabic is considered a critical language of strategic importance, many national programs offer funding for students who want to study in immersive environments across the Middle East.
Students in our program have earned some of the most competitive awards available, including the Fulbright, Gilman Scholarship, Critical Language Scholarship, and the Boren Scholarship. These opportunities support intensive language study, cultural immersion, and global engagement—experiences that can shape your academic path and open doors to future careers.
Project Global Officer, better known as Project GO, promotes critical language education, study abroad, and intercultural dialogue opportunities for Reserve Officer Training Corps students.
