Understanding pollen movement from ground to sky

Using ground samplers, drones, and simulations, researchers successfully measured pollen dispersal from a genetically engineered crop and established a modeling methodology for future prediction.

小猪视频 Tech researchers engineered switchgrass, shown in this field, to produce an orange fluorescent protein in its pollen, allowing them to distinguish it from naturally occurring pollen in the environment. Drones equipped with air sampling devices draw airborne particles into a liquid solution as they are flown over the genetically engineered crop.

Get in the Flow

Some of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century include airplanes, spacecraft, computers and the internet. Complex issues such as sustainability, health and the security of the world are expected to be the top challenges for future generations.

Aerospace and ocean engineers will play a vital role in reimagining the way education and technology can work together as a force of good in the world.
